Kino Bay has often been described as the perfect Mexican getaway. It is a
tranquil Mexican village peppered with small shops, luxury homes and all the
adventure the Sea of Cortez has to offer. Scuba divers, water sports enthusiast
and sun worshippers return to Kino Bay season after season. Like myself, many
visitors to Kino decide to stay. The white sand beaches in Kino Bay are
considered to be of the finest in Mexico. For decades Kino Bay has been a
popular destination for vacationers, fisherman and travelers alike. The people
of Kino Bay are warm and friendly and the local artists and restaurants produce
experiences not soon forgotton. We encourage you to visit us here soon in
fantastic Bahia de Kino, Mexico.
Kino bay is located on the Eastern shore of the Sea of Cortez in Sonora Mexico,
1 hour west of the state capital of Sonora, Hermosillo. The closest border
crossing point into the USA is Nogales, Arizona 235 miles to the North. The
Hermosillo international airport services most US hubs and flights to and from
hermosillo as well as car rentals, are always available.
Kino bay is divided into two distinct areas. Kino Viejo and Kino Nuevo.
Kino Viejo or "Old Kino" is the original fishing village of Kino Bay. Here you
will find aproximately 5000 residents, schools, churches, medical services, gas,
all types of shops, restaurants, the new pier and many other attractions.
Kino Nuevo lies North of Old Kino along the beach and is occupied by larger
vacation and beach homes. There are public beaches, parks, museums, stores,
restaurants and many other places to explore. The beach road "Mar de Cortez"
winds up the coast line for about 10 miles. The views in New Kino are
exceptional and the many off shore islands create a magnificent panorama.
Many people both American and Mexican live permanently in Kino Bay and A nice
blend of both cultures makes staying in Kino Bay a pleasant and relaxing
experience. English and Spanish are spoken and pesos as well as dollars are
acceptable. Friendly people are always nearby for help or information.
The water system in Bahia de Kino has recently been upgraded. Electricity is
available in all parts of the city. There is a local small aircraft runway just
outside of town. A new four lane highway connects Kino to Hermosillo.
Fishing, Construction and Iron wood carving are some of the larger employers of
the local population. A large shrimping fleet is stationed in Kino Bay as well
as shrimp farming companies and other sea food providers. There are several boat
launching ramps in Kino and "Rescue One" makes sure that everyone on the water
remains safe.
Club Deportivo offers many services to its members including social events,
clubs, church services, book and movie lending , information services, and a
nice full bar.
Beaches are public property in mexico so access to the shore is always
guarranteed. Dolphins, Sea lions and schooling fish can be seen regularly. Shell
collecting and beach combing are popular distractions. Palm huts or "Palapas"
dot the beaches and can be used by anyone. The weather in Kino is good and there
are distinct seasonal changes. The waters of the Sea of Cortez can be very clear
and offers swimmers the perfect chance to safely enjoy an ocean swim.
Life in Kino Bay is laid back. Incredible sunsets, casual get togethers and cool
sea breazes give way to deep relaxation and fond memories. The expression "No
shoes, no shirt, no problem" can often be over heard.
